SANY Unveils World’s First 250,000-Ton-Meter Ring-Track Crane
On August 31, the world’s first 250,000-ton-meter ring-track crane was officially unveiled at SANY’s Huzhou Industrial Park in Zhejiang, China. Jointly developed by SANY Heavy Lifting and China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Power Engineering Co., Ltd., the crane is designed to address the heavy lifting requirements of the “one machine, two islands” construction method for Hualong One 2.0 nuclear power projects.

The launch marks a major breakthrough in China’s high-end nuclear power lifting equipment sector, particularly in the development of ultra-large-capacity cranes for complex nuclear construction applications.

The development of the 250,000-ton-meter ring-track crane took seven years of technical research. The equipment was developed to meet demanding requirements for lifting radius, load capacity and positioning accuracy, enabling a single crane to handle module lifting operations for two nuclear islands from one operating position.

The crane features a 137-meter + 66-meter super-long boom configuration. Its lifting capacity at medium and large radii in nuclear power applications is approximately 50% higher than comparable overseas equipment, providing greater operational flexibility for large-scale construction projects.

In terms of energy efficiency, the crane adopts an all-electric drive system and can operate directly using industrial power. This enables zero on-site emissions and lower operating noise compared with conventional fuel-powered equipment. According to project application estimates, the equipment can potentially shorten nuclear power construction schedules by around 15%, while significantly reducing equipment operating, site and logistics costs.

The crane also integrates a range of intelligent safety and digital technologies, including anti-collision systems, 360-degree visual monitoring, remote fault diagnosis, rope disorder detection, facial recognition and operator behavior monitoring. These systems are designed to improve lifting safety and provide more comprehensive control over complex construction operations.

The successful launch of the 250,000-ton-meter ring-track crane represents another important step in the development of China’s heavy lifting equipment. It also demonstrates the growing capability of Chinese manufacturers to develop large-scale, specialized equipment for demanding sectors such as nuclear power construction.



From the 4,500-ton crawler crane known as the “world’s largest lifting machine” to the new 250,000-ton-meter ring-track crane, SANY continues to expand its presence in the high-end heavy lifting equipment sector, supporting the development of increasingly complex infrastructure and energy projects.
