XCMG Tower Cranes Support Hong Kong Data Center Project

On the shores of Victoria Harbour, where the digital economy continues to grow rapidly, the construction of China Mobile’s Fotan Data Center in Hong Kong is progressing steadily. At the project site, three XCMG tower cranes are operating in close coordination, playing a key role in building this important digital infrastructure hub.

The Fotan Data Center is a strategic project for China Mobile to strengthen its global computing power network and further expand its presence in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The project is positioned far beyond a traditional data center, aiming to deeply integrate 5G communications, cloud services, and AI computing power to enhance Hong Kong’s competitiveness as an international information hub and innovation and technology center. After completion, the data center will become a major node connecting five international submarine cables and five Guangdong-Hong Kong backbone terrestrial cables, and will work together with five other core data centers in the Greater Bay Area to form a world-class data hub with global connectivity and large-scale data carrying capacity.

Hong Kong’s limited land resources and strict construction standards place extremely high demands on construction equipment. The Fotan Data Center is being built to Tier III standards, featuring a complex structure and dense working environment. The site is equipped with two XGT360H-20S1 tower cranes and one XGL300-20S. The XGT360H-20S1 offers a maximum lifting capacity of 20 tons and delivers stronger performance at shorter jib lengths. With an independent height of 55 meters, it is well suited for high-density lifting operations in confined urban spaces. The crane group is equipped with anti-collision and hook tracking systems, enabling real-time monitoring, early warning, and active intervention to ensure safe and efficient coordinated operation of multiple cranes in extremely limited space.

With millimeter-level control precision, the three tower cranes are efficiently advancing the construction of this future digital hub, laying a solid foundation for the project’s scheduled completion in 2026.

In addition, Hong Kong’s coastal environment, characterized by high humidity, frequent rainfall, and regular typhoons, poses significant challenges to equipment reliability and environmental adaptability. Both the XGT360H-20S1 and XGL300-20S adopt internationally leading electrostatic powder coating technology, providing excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance and ensuring long-term stable operation in the local environment.

To cope with typhoon-prone conditions, the XGT360H-20S1 demonstrates outstanding performance in wind resistance, anchoring safety, and overload protection. Its jib adopts a fully embedded lower chord joint design, significantly enhancing resistance to sudden unloading and collision, and providing strong safety assurance for construction operations under extreme weather conditions.
